After School Club Assistant / Play Mentor Roles

Kingsbury School Sports Partnership CIC is a highly successful school sports partnership based in North and East Birmingham. We provide services to over 40 primary schools and have an excellent reputation within the city. Our core mission is to make a difference to young people and increase the quality and quantity of PE, sport and physical activity delivered in schools. One of our key aims is also to develop employability skills of young people and provide jobs in the sports sector.

After School Club Assistant

Job Title: After School Club Assistant

Salary: £6.83 – £10 per hour (depending on qualifications & experience)

Appointment Type: Part time, 8-12 hrs a week – Term Time only

Hours: 3pm-5pm/5.30pm Monday to Thursday

Location: Barr View Primary School

Responsible to: After School Club Coordinator

MAIN PURPOSE OF POST:

To support delivery of sports, play and craft sessions to Barr View children who attend the after-school club

JOB DESCRIPTION

To support lead staff to deliver fun physical activity and play sessions
To set up and tidy up equipment
To always act as a friendly face to the children and encourage & support them to join in in activities.
To ensure all activities are delivered safely
To adhere to Kingsbury SSP CIC Safeguarding & Child protection policy at all times
To promote the work and image of the Kingsbury SSP CIC by always maintaining high standards of personal appearance and adopting a friendly, professional approach to the public.
To communicate effectively with parents / carers.
To adhere to Kingsbury SSP CIC key conditions of employment
Adhere to the primary school behaviour and safeguarding policy at all times.

Be a good role model to all young people you work with at all times
To undertake appropriate professional development to support your development as an after-school club assistant.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will hold a level 3 or equivalent in childcare, will be experienced, organised, hard working and enthusiastic about working with children.
First Aid (training will be provided if not)
Level 2 Food Hygiene (training will be provided if not)
Level 2 Sports Coaching Qualification (not essential)

Play Mentor

We are looking to recruit Play Mentors to deliver physical activity sessions during lunchtimes in our local primary schools. Applicants must have experience volunteering or working with young people and ideally have experience delivering sports sessions to primary school age pupils.

Hourly rate: £7.50 ph (or min.wage for age)

Play mentors will be expected to:

Deliver safe, engaging physical activity sessions every lunchtime
Motivate and encourage all children to participate and become more active
Act as an excellent role model at all times
Adhere to the school behaviour and health & safety policies at all times
Participate in additional staff training and share practice with other play mentor

Successful applicants will be based in one primary school for the remainder of the academic year (to mid July) and will be expected to work 1.5hrs a day, Monday to Friday (11.50-1.20pm or 12pm-1.30pm depending on the school)

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is interested in potentially becoming a sports coach or gaining experience in an primary school. KSSP will be keen to support Play Mentors to become part time sports coaches in the future.
