CURRENT VACANCIES FOR NOVEMBER 2020 START

This is a fantastic opportunity for either students who want to follow a career in sports coaching or primary teaching.  The apprenticeship can be used as a gap year for students wanting to go to university or it can provide a pathway to becoming an employed sports coach or teaching assistant.

The PE apprenticeship programme at Kingsbury School Sports Partnership, will provide you with opportunities to:

  • Work with qualified teachers to support PE lessons in schools
  • Experience primary competition
  • Gain experience in supporting primary festivals, including working with children with Special Educational needs
  • Develop coaching skills by leading lunch time and extra curricular activities
  • Develop personal skills that are essential to be successful in the work place
  • Gain recognised qualifications
  • Meet like minding people who have the same career interests

IMPORTANT Information relating to the role of a PE and School Sports Apprentice

  • As an Apprentice you will be based within a primary school and will be employed by the host setting or Kingsbury SSP.
  • Within this environment you will receive training, support and mentoring through primarily an agreed tutor who will be working closely with KSSP
  • As an Apprentice you are not a qualified member of staff and should not be on your own with a group unless there is an identified member of staff working in close vicinity. One aspect of your role is to enhance numbers at clubs NOT to take responsibility for clubs. Unless you are a more experienced NGB level 2 coach, in which case the delivery ratio is 16:1.
  • By mid- Spring term as an Apprentice you will be internally trained to allow for your competence to be assessed by your school/club to determine whether you can give you increased responsibility with lunchtime clubs etc. At this point if you are over 18 yrs old, you will be able to given more responsibility with clubs
  •  You will be placed in a host school for 4 days with one day a week set aside for training and workforce capacity i.e. to support with delivery of competitions , link with the school games organiser
  • You will complete the community activator apprenticeship which will be delivered over 13 months

Expectations of Placement:

As an Apprentice you will be tasked with a negotiated delivery that could include the following:

  • Supporting delivery of PE and School Sport (you will be viewed as an ‘Extra pair of hands)
  • Being responsible for the PE display board, issuing letters and booking on events on KSSP website
  • Assisting with extra-curricular activities (physical activity, competition, change4life clubs, Wake Up & Shake Up)
  • Supporting pupils to run the school sports crew
  • Depending upon ability and confidence within your role you can work leading warm-ups and leading small groups of identified young people in sports related activities
  • Confidentiality must be adhered to by all Apprentices and all aspects of safe guarding will be covered through your induction training plus additional school specific training as appropriate
